Bev Perdue has anounced that Dr. Gene Conti will be the head of the NC DOT and Moses Cary the head of the Employment Security Commission. So the cabinet is definitely taking shape, but Perdue has yet to announce me as the North Carolina Secretary of Awesome. [Independent]
Freshmen lawmakers in DC start their jobs today, and among them are brand new Senator Kay Hagan and brand new Representative Larry Kissell. We still have to wait a while for this guy to leave DC, though. [N&O]
One hearing about the Wake County School system’s reassignment plan down, and nothing is accomplished. The schools are still over-crowded. People still don’t want to pay taxes to build more. People still don’t want their kids in a year-round school. People still don’t want their kids to have to go to school elsewhere and have to make new friends. But more hearings should fix this right up. [WRAL]
Kay Yow’s doctor says she’s still not ready to return to her coaching duties for the NC State women’s basketball team. An announcement about her future is expected today. “Announcements about the future” usually aren’t good news, so let’s hope for the best. [WRAL]
An audit reveals that many of our state agencies could have saved a truck-ton of money by making temp agencies compete to fill their temporary positions. So expect much of North Carolina’s spreadsheets in 2009 to be filled out by Greg, who hasn’t used Excel for anything but filling in the cells with different colors to make dirty pictures. [TBJ]
