Triangle Points: Offshore drilling?!, racist graffiti, tuition hikes, but gas is cheap

  • Racist graffiti update: the NC State student government stopped short of calling for the explusion of the four students, who have penned anonymous public apologies. You can publically apologize anonymously? Oh wait, no you can’t, that’s why no one is impressed. [N&O, WRAL]
  • Just because the “drill baby drill” squad lost the race, doesn’t mean the idea didn’t stick in someone’s head. Offshore drilling for North Carolina? What could possibly go wrong? [N&O]
  • Today’s crummy economy reminder: state budget cuts will result in tuition increases of up to 6.5% at UNC and NC State. [WRAL]
  • Gas is cheap enough to bathe in again, so that’s the upside of the fact that we’re all hobos now who can’t afford college. [N&O]
  • A new study shows a link between having a TV in a teen’s bedroom and that teen’s likelihood to smoke or have sex. Perhaps the new hit show “Smokey McScrewsalot” is to blame. [H-S reg req]
  • The mailman sentenced to probation for burying junk mail in his backyard? Everyone loves him, big time, he’s getting all kinds of fan mail, because people love irony. He’s an American hero now, and by tomorrow he’ll have his own reality show or something. [N&O]
  • This is sad: a Cary teenager died from something called the “choking game,” which sounds ridiculous but apparently is a real problem. [WRAL]
